Never stop learning

Last night I attended a TRU (Theater Resources Unlimited) panel discussion on creating a show using with a small budget. It was back to school again. The time that I spent teaching others how to dance kept me away from personal projects because there just wasn’t enough time in the day. Now I can explore, create and really learn the business end.
Anyway, I learned so much and can honestly recommend this organization to anyone interested in self producing. Networking with experts in the field is refreshing, because their words are TRU. No B.S.

Helping someone

Today I had a business meeting with a former dance student. It was awesome to see her after many years and listen to her desires and help her plan her project. I would not do this with just anyone. This dancer has already proved herself to be a professional in the field; someone who followed my lead and accomplished what she set out to do….and I take her seriously.
Many people talk, dream and waste time. She is willing to take chances, direction and follow her heart. This is so gratifying for me to see how I was able to influence and guide her to where is in life. And they say, “teaching is a thankless job”.
I look forward to announcing her successes down the road.

Finding artistic fulfillment

I was sitting at my piano playing with intervals while practicing singing. I realized that this is something that I should have done many years ago, but was so focused on dance that singing was on the back burner. I had to sing in certain shows and so I practiced. Now I want to sing more and it just like dancing…back to the barre….stretching, Patience, persistence and discipline will make the difference in the long run and this is another lesson learned from being a dancer. And the joy is yet to come!

“An honest dancer”

Many years ago, I was a given a scholarship at the Martha Graham School of Dance. It was a great honor. I worked as hard as possible, taking three classes a day and demonstrating in front of the class whenever asked to. One day one of my teachers announced that I was an “honest dancer”, a description that I never quite understood,…. until much later. Can you guess what that meant?

Loose 40 pounds

I am so grateful that my father taught me to be disciplined. I never appreciated those lessons as a young girl, but now I see the rewards of working hard.
